CNC Router Using VCarve

Want to get access to the CNC Router but finding Fusion 360 CAM a bit too challenging? This class takes a different approach by leveraging VCarve Pro to create your designs. VCarve Pro provides a powerful yet intuitive software solution for creating and cutting parts on a CNC router. Using the TXRX Labs Makerspace version of VCarve, you can utilize the software on your own computer at no cost.

The class will cover 2D pocketing and profiling, 3D carving as well as VCarve engraving. Students will learn how to compose their designs, create toolpaths, calculate feeds and speeds, and execute the carve on the CNC. The class will prepare you to get checked out on the TXRX CNC router.

-Day 1: ○VCarve software tutorial ○ Design a simple catch all tray ○ Create basic tool paths and learn about feeds and speeds ○ Move to the CNC and learn how to use the LinuxCNC UI ○ Setup and carve

-Day 2 ○ Learn about VCarve engraving ○ Design a sign using text and vectors ○ Bit selection and feeds and speeds discussion ○ Create roughing and finishing tool paths ○ Setup and carve

-Day 3 ○ Learn about 3D composition and carving ○ Explore 3D clipart and discuss how to get good models ○ Import, scale and orient a 3D object ○ Bit selection and feeds and speeds discussion ○ Create roughing and finishing toolpaths ○ Setup and carve
