3D Modeling with Rhino

Rhinoceros (Rhino) can create, edit, analyze, document, render, animate, and translate NURBS (Non-uniform rational basis spline) curves, surfaces, and solids with no limits on complexity, degree, or size. Rhino also supports polygon meshes and point clouds. Its accuracy and flexibility makes it possible for students to explore and build their ideas intuitively. This course is meant to be an approachable way for those interested in graphic design, architecture, or fabrication and rapid-prototyping to generate and modify CAD geometry.

In this 6 hour class, students will become familiarized with the interface and navigation within the viewports of Rhinoceros while exploring commands and modeling aids to create and organize simple geometry. Once immersed within the three dimensional environment, students will begin to modify objects with more in depth commands while beginning to expand their drawings into solid forms.

The second portion of this class will culminate the basic skills from day one to begin to create more complicated solid and surface based objects in three dimensional space. By the end of the course, students should be proficient enough to model their own small project.
