Woodworking II - End Grain Cutting Board

Class will include all aspects of making an end-grain cutting board. Each student will make their own cutting board while working on their basic woodworking skills with the goal of the “perfect” glue up.

We will start with a discussion on wood selection, estimating, and the construction process. Then we will cut and glue up the boards focusing on a proper glue up. Second class we will flatten the boards on the planer, then cut them again, rotate and create the end grain pattern, then glue up. In the third class we flatten the board on the drum sander, add edge details and sand, sand, sand. The magic happens when you add the oil finish at the end.

This is a multiple step process that takes at least 3 days to complete. Students will learn through instruction and hands-on. A detailed hand-out will be provided.

Samples of various types of end-grain cutting boards will be available for viewing. We can discuss various options for post-processing boards on the laser or CNC
